Does Date Caramel Taste Just Like Caramel?
You may be wondering, does date caramel taste just like caramel? Not exactly, but it has a caramel-like flavor that will certainly hit the spot!
Unlike your typical caramel, which is created by caramelizing sugar and adding cream, this is a whole-food option that doesn’t require adding any sugar.
You get the nutritional value of things like:
Fiber, which helps regulate blood sugar, antioxidants that support the body’s inflammatory response, polyphenols, which help protect your cells from damage, vitamins K, B6, B3, B1, and Folate (B9).
Dates are also a great source of minerals like: Copper, Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, Iron, and Manganese.
So this is not your typical caramel dip. It’s good for you!
How to Make Date Caramel Dip
This recipe is dairy-free and so easy to make; all you need is a glass bowl, hot filtered water, and a blender or food processor.

- Begin by boiling some filtered water.
- Remove the pits and the top of the date (the little remnant of the stem) with your fingers
- Add pitted Medjool dates to a glass bowl or measuring cup and pour hot water on top.
- Allow the dates and hot water to sit for 10 minutes to soften
- Once soft (don’t pour out your hot water), use a slotted spoon or fork to remove your soaked dates and add them to a blender (I used a blender cup for this small batch)
- Next, add 6-8 tablespoons of water to your soaked dates, along with optional vanilla extract and sea salt, and blend until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency.
- Serves 4
