What is self-help?

Style And Stewardship - Woman reading from the bible sitting and drinking coffee

What is self-help? What does it really mean?

When we think about “self-help” we have to see its issues.

Self-help, just like us, has limitations.

Style And Stewardship

Have you heard the saying ” God only helps those that help themselves?”

The main issue with this is that the word of God doesn’t support it.
It’s one of those sayings that people use when they are essentially trying to motivate themselves to be strong.

I get it.

But we have limits.

Scripture says that “His [God’s strength] is perfected in our weakness.”

The Apostle Paul pleads with God to remove a certain pain from his life (that he was unable and limited from removing on his own). 👇🏽

👉🏽 “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.”
(Paul’s response)

👉🏽 “Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.”2Co 12:9

That sounds really vulnerable and Helpless in my opinion💁🏽‍♀️.

It sounds like God has a strength that we don’t.

It sounds like we need Him since our abilities to help ourselves and even others is finite.

Self-help and assistance from others are very different than salvation “ultimate Help.”

💥 But Thank God we can go to Him because of Jesus for His infinite help.

I would love to hear your thoughts and perspective on self-help.
