Healthy Air Fryer Buffalo Wings

I don’t know about you but buffalo wings end up on my plate once a week. These are simple, delicious and cook to the perfect crisp in the air fryer without ever heating up a pot of oil! They work as the perfect party side, appetizer, or a full meal.

All you need is your favorite wing portions. I really love the Pasture Bird Brand, or the large pack of organic chicken wings that I purchase from Costco and often share in my Costco grocery hauls.

Whatever brand of wings you prefer will work. As a Holistic Nutritionist I lean toward pasture-raised, organic, or antibiotic free if that’s what’s available.

Air Fryer with Wings Buffalo Sauce

After popping your wings in a preheated Air Fryer (this is the one I use) you hit a few buttons and you step away.

Cooking should be that easy, especially on a busy night! Am I right?

Mix a quick 2-ingredient Buffalo sauce or if you want to purchase a brand that is Gluten Free and Dairy Free this is my go-to buffalo sauce because the ingredients are amazing.

I also love to have some celery sticks, carrot sticks and a Ranch dressing with really clean ingredients like Primal Kitchen Ranch, or Tessamae Ranch dressing for dipping. I have yet to find a dairy free blue cheese but let me know if you have any favorites!

You can turn this into a full meal by adding your favorite side. We really love oven fries or grab your favorite freezer French fries and pop those in the oven as your wings air fry. I like to grab a bag of Alexia fries since the ingredients are a bit cleaner.

Helpful Tools for Buffalo Wings

Besides the air fryer a pair of tongs makes removing your wings from the air fryer so simple and getting them out of the sauce less messy.

Stainless steel mixing bowls with lids makes this super simple as hot sauce can stain. I love that I can just pop the wings and coat them in the sauce by shaking it up with the lid on.

Glass bowls and a bit of wax paper also keep the sauce making process simple.

If you’re making healthy fries to go with your wings, which I highly recommend you’ll need a large sheet pan and some parchment paper.

And don’t forget to add some celery sticks and carrots to go with your wings for that restaurant vibe.

Equipment

  • 1 Air Fryer
  • 1 stainless steel bowl
  • 1 pair of tongs
  • 1 stainless steel bowl with lid

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wing sections cook one batch at a time if using a small air fryer (double cook time)
  • 2 large carrots optional cut into sticks
  • 4 stalks celery optional cut into sticks
  • 1/4 cup Nutiva shortening or your favorite healthy shortening
  • 1/4 cup Hot sauce use your favorite we love Texas Peete

Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer 400 degrees for five minutes
  • add 1 pound of wing sections to air fryer basket making sure there is space between each wing (if using a small basket style air fryer)
  • sprinkle salt to taste (optional)
  • Cook for 30 min at 380 degrees
  • Add second batch (1 lb) of chicken wing sections if your air fryer is the smaller size with a basket
  • Add 1/4 cup dairy free shortening to 1/4 cup hot sauce, cover and microwave 30-45 seconds
  • handle carefully and mix all ingredients together
  • cut up optional celery and carrots into sticks
  • add sauce to a stainless steel bowl cover with sauce and mix until wings are coated
